Not all that long ago, Randy Smith was enjoying a career as a project engineer. Twenty years experience out of Michigan Technology University as a mechanical engineer that saw him going from designing tools to project management. Along the way he picked up his MBA from Walsh College.
Randy designed specialized assembly lines. No one designs an assembly line in a vacuum. Randy had to design complex systems while successfully communicating with engineers, vendors, supply chain and project managers, and, ultimately, customers and end users.
Management. Engineering. Communication. Cooperation. Problem solving. That’s Randy . . . and he brought all those incredibly hard to find skills to Smith Blythe, P.C..
In a nutshell, Randy keeps the firm running like one of the well-designed assembly lines he devised. This is incredibly important to any law firm, even more so to a criminal defense firm frequently preparing for trial. Or high-stakes plea negotiations. Or spending a day in another part of Michigan in a police station while a client gives a statement. Or any of the hundred things we do that aren’t smoothly running the office.
Quite simply, Randy does everything needed to relieve our lawyers and paralegals from anything that would take them away from working on cases. He ‘keeps the lights on’ allowing our attorneys to concentrate exclusively on our clients.
It’s more than that, of course. Randy’s background and skills bring a unique dynamic to Smith Blythe, PC.. The same skills he utilized working with a dozen different departments in a half a dozen different companies are magnified and make our firm run as efficiently as possible.
Randy keeps us on the technological edge. Up to date on legal technology; case management software; organizing the vast number of reports, files, information for each of our client cases so the relevant facts are at our fingertips at all times; making sure we always have the latest legal news, precedents, and strategies.
Almost as important, when a case involves complicated issues - sometimes dense forensic data, always voluminous records - Randy has protocols in place to allow us to not only access them but turn around and present them in simple, understandable terms.
Randy gives Smith Blythe a palpable edge defensing clients charged with serious felonies. Engineering’s loss was very much Smith Blythe’s gain.
When he’s not saving the day in the office, Randy enjoys spending time with his wife, Shannon, and four children.
